The Solemnity of Jesus Christ King of the Universe

Christ the Leader, Christ the King, Christ Christ our Lord!” – the words of this song are sung on XXXIV Sunday during the year. It is the celebration of Christ the King of the Universe. A sign that the church year is ending and that Advent is about to begin. This celebration was established by Pope Pius XI in the Jubilee Year 1925, marking it for the Sunday before All Saints’ Day. In the new liturgical calendar, the celebration of Christ the King has been postponed to the last Sunday of the church year to emphasize the truth that Christ will give Heavenly Father an eternal and universal kingdom at the end of time. The idea of Christ’s royal dignity can already be found in old liturgical celebrations, such as Epiphany or Palm Sunday.
